A United Effort

The Homes RI campaign was launched in 2018 to shine a spotlight on the increased need for Rhode Island to invest in more affordable homes in cities and towns across the state.

The campaign is a united effort of United Way of Rhode Island and housing and non-profit organizations, including: Housing Network of Rhode Island, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Rhode Island, Rhode Island Community Action Association, Neighbors 4 Revitalization at the CYC, R.I. Center for Justice, R.I. Homeless Advocacy Project, Rhode Island KIDS COUNT, Rhode Island Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty, and Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless.

Take Action

Campaign goals:

The Homes RI campaign will work to:

Drive awareness about the lack of affordable housing in Rhode Island. Too many individuals — from millennials just entering the workforce to retirees who have dedicated their lives to their careers — are struggling with one of the most basic human needs: finding an affordable home. This is a problem in every city and town in our state.

Encourage greater per capita investment on building affordable housing. Compared to our neighbors, Massachusetts and Connecticut both invest significantly more per capita on affordable housing.

Spark stable and consistent funding for affordable housing. Voters agree that affordable housing is important to Rhode Island families and the economy — that’s why they approve affordable housing bonds every time they appear on the ballot (most recently in 2016, 2012, and 2006). A more affordable and reliable funding alternative would provide dedicated annual investment in affordable housing initiatives.
